Back and shoulder ache, breastfeeding and some yoga poses

2687-3.jpgI don’t know about you but even when I use my boppy (”my breast friend”) or any friendly pillow I find to prop up baby while breastfeeding, my shoulders are firmly set in a U shape and my head seems to be down staring at my gorgeous creation. Once my baby has finished feeding everything aches and I have this strong desire to push my arms behind me to stretch my chest.

Some of the best ways to get your posture back and prevent pain while opening up…

How long to breastfeed?

200px-breastfeeding-icon-med.pngSometimes I feel like I have been talking about when I am going to stop breastfeeding before I even got started. I don’t think that attitude is very good or healthy for anyone. So why fight something so natural that actually is biochemically designed to be pleasurable? Why would I want to stop hormones such as oxytocin and prolactin that are supped to keep me mellow and feel more nurturing towards my baby? Why wouldn’t I want to carry on breastfeeding if it is meant to help…

Walking to stay fit and lose weight

ladiespregnantwalkc1.jpgI walked a huge amount during my pregnancy and now postpartum I have to force myself to get out the house before a day of mayhem begins. But every time I do, I immediately feel the benefits. Sometimes I walk with my daughter in the stroller but I also enjoy just being on my own. I come back feeling lovely and calm.

It’s amazing to me that with all this positive energy, I still find the hardest challenge is just pushing myself out the front door. There always seems…

Breasts after pregnancy

1960-61pregnantgirl158x.jpg A woman’s breasts are a subject of great mystery and beauty.  They are also a primal source of nourishment for new life. We are encouraged (mainly by the opposite sex) to show off our beauty and yet I just read about some poor woman in Houston who was breastfeeding her child in a restaurant (she had covered the baby with a blanket) and was asked to leave. It seems, we are encouraged to celebrate our femininity but not publicly supported for one of our essential roles as…

Rock Star Moms

octopus_skirt.jpgSometimes I have to write about an item of clothing for pregnant mamas that seems to be absolutely on target. Rock Star Moms have come out with a line of really cute skirts that seem ultra comfortable and wait for it…. kind of cool and beautiful too. Love the intro to their website too.

Losing weight AKA portion distortion

scales.jpgOK yes, sometimes I take a look at terribly important trashy tabloid magazines and am impressed by some celebrity’s fantastic figure only 3 weeks after they have given birth. What diet are they on? In those first two months I was very involved with 3 huge courses a day and multiple snacks to get me through the day. But now here I am, three months after giving birth to number 2 and I confess I have been talking about losing weight (and so far it seems to…

After the baby boot camp in Mexico

amansala1.jpgSome of you may have heard about this place in Tulum, Mexico. It looks like heaven and the perfect place to go after you have just had a baby….

I am liking the idea of taking yourself to a place where you can relax, do yoga, swim in the ocean, go on bike rides and have a dedicated nanny to help take care of the baby while you do exercise, treat yourself to a few massages and munch on a super healthy delicious menu.

This new…

Hair loss after pregnancy

hiar.jpgWith my last pregnancy I remember going back to work after three month and at around the same time my hair started to fall out. I felt like a shaggy dog who was malting everywhere. Not a great look particularly for my husband and the nanny who would find a trail of thick black hair wherever I went. This time round I am wondering if I am going to have the same experience. They say usual hair loss is around 100 hairs a day (it never feels…

Still in my sweatpants

I’ve been itching to write a new post but honestly, there hasn’t been any time. As soon as one goes to sleep, the other one seems to wake up. I am nearly three weeks into motherhood x 2 and I am still in my nasty (yes they are really starting to bother me) grey sweatpants and my husband’s t-shirts. He has been pretty cool about my using his tops, but for me, this is all just one big slippery slope. I don’t want to be in his t-shirts.

My mother bought…

What we are looking for in a belly oil

I really like to oil up after a shower. I know it doesn’t do much to prevent stretch marks (that seems to be a wholly genetic consideration) but pregnancy really does change a mother’s body (haven’t you noticed??). Sometimes it gets really itchy and hormonal changes loosen the connective tissues so the skin can become more elastic. If the skin remains dry it can be prone to tearing which can possibly lead to stretch marks. I figure my skin deserves as much love as it can get and I think…
