Early Intervention…. What’s up with my kid?

Hello Mamas!

So sorry for the blog hiatus. I have been totally absorbed with my daughter Leia (now 15 months) who has a number of development delays that are notably effecting her motor skills (crawling and walking), some sensory stuff and vision. It has not been an easy ride and some day soon I will describe the last few months, but for today, I just think I want to get across one message.

If you think your kid isn’t quite meetingĀ his or herĀ goals, and something in your heart is saying, things aren’t quite as they should be, don’t ignore that little voice. Even if you are wrong, all you did was get some peace of mind. Right now in America and I would imagine in many parts of the world, there are early intervention organizations that do absolutely amazing work.

They come to your house, (generally nice, intelligent women) and spend a couple of hours evaluating your child, offering suggestions of doctors you might need to see and then ultimately offering their own services, if they deem it necessary. I am so grateful I did it. I found them through my pediatrician. They have truly supported me through such a difficult time and their intelligence and experience is really impressive.

So on that note… and I will give you much more detail next time, don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you think your kid needs it. You might not get all the answers immediately. I am still figuring it out months later, but you will at least feel like you are doing something constructive and responsible for your child. Remember…. the sooner you jump on stuff with your little babe, the better.
