Flaxseed, fig and walnut crackers

This looks like a delicious recipe. I found it in Cookie magazine this month…. Actually, there were a few cool articles in the magazine. They recommend serving the crackers with a fruit spread, almond butter or for an extra dose of fatty acid, an omega 3 rich pumpkin butter. Hmmmm…

1/3 cup whole flaxseed
1/4 cup ground flaxseed or flaxseed meal (available in healh food stores)
1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Wonderful Arnica

arnica.jpgI didn’t know about Arnica as a general recovery herb but a friend who had a C-Section swears by it. It is used externally for aches, strains, bruises and injuries where the skin has not been broken. Arnica can also be taken internally in minute or homeopathic dosages and is best prescribed by an experienced practitioner. All the same, I found a great book “The Homeopathic Childbirth Manual” (I just added it to my reading list) that recommends dosages of Arnica taken homeopathically during labor and after…

Still in my sweatpants

I’ve been itching to write a new post but honestly, there hasn’t been any time. As soon as one goes to sleep, the other one seems to wake up. I am nearly three weeks into motherhood x 2 and I am still in my nasty (yes they are really starting to bother me) grey sweatpants and my husband’s t-shirts. He has been pretty cool about my using his tops, but for me, this is all just one big slippery slope. I don’t want to be in his t-shirts.

My mother bought…

Postpartum traditions in Korea

korean_stork.gifThe jury seems to be out on how often you should visit your acunpuncturist during pregnancy. Youngja Yoo, RN, L Ac, the lady I visit in New York, believes you should come for a session once every trimester. Youngja worked for many years as a nurse in California and only in her 50s decided to change her career and practice Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is a real inspiration to me — I love the thought of being able to change your career radically later in life and…

Mothers don’t need to nap at the same time as their babies

Two weeks into the “recovery period” and wondering about the sleep thing. The problem for most of us somewhat ambitious “‘yes-I-have-a-life” women is that we want to do MORE than breastfeed and change diapers. So as much as we know getting some shut-eye would probably make sense if the baby has fallen asleep, a new entry to my blog seems even MORE appealing.

I wonder what drives us to do such unsensible things? Is it a strong desire to feel like we haven’t lost our old lives entirely? From a…

Baby Leia… 6lbs and 110z. Cuuuuuuuuuute! Plus my honest account of delivery and what you need to take to the hospital.

378789921_9991d2e89b.jpgBaby Leia Oriel Yarkoni arrived on Monday night, January 29th at 10.30pm. After reading her horoscope chart (rising Libra, sun Aquarius, moon in Cancer) I can say with all certainty she is the most delicious and calm baby. A real joy. Ok, enough of the gushing love chat, I am just checking in to let you kinow what it was like to give birth vaginally for the second time in a hospital without an epidural (no ladies I don’t think I am a martyr).

I started to get…
